About Ron Reasoner
I was born in Portland, Oregon to Francis and Helen Reasoner. My parents were devout Catholics. I was an altar boy in the church – even went to Catholic school. When my priest died, I faced my own mortality. It sent me on a search for answers. My biggest question was, “How can I know for sure I’m going to Heaven when I die?” My questions led me to Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College to study Theology and ‘secure’ my place in Heaven.
It was at Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College where God gave me the two greatest gifts of my life.
1. My Salvation
I had prayed the ‘sinner’s prayer’ at least three times during my teen years, but it wasn’t until my second year of Bible College I finally understood Ephesians 2:8-9: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.”
- Salvation comes only by grace through faith (it cannot depend on me)
- Salvation is a gift from God (I cannot buy it)
- Not of works (I cannot earn my salvation)
After praying AND believing that Jesus died for my sins, rose from the dead for my justification, and ascended into Heaven to intercede on my behalf, I prayed and asked Jesus to forgive my sins and save me by HIS GRACE.
2. My Wife
I met Kathy Longest my second year of Bible College. We were married in 1983. She is truly my better half as we serve the Lord together.
After graduation, I served my internship in Boise, Idaho. Then in 1987, God called me to plant a church in my native stomping grounds- Hillsboro, Oregon. I pastored there for six years until the Lord called me to Russia as a missionary. How did we have the faith to pick up a family of five small children and head to communist Russia? God grew us through trials, tribulations, and even famine during our six years at Corridor Baptist Church. God proved Himself Faithful and True in every situation! Read about them in the book.
I was privileged to be a missionary in Russia for 25 years. God took me north to the Reindeer People in the Arctic and south to the Camel People in the Kalmykian desert. Wow! What adventures we had! God continued to show Himself Faithful and True in every situation.
Today you can find us at Bridgeway Baptist Church in Vancouver, Washington starting a multi-cultural church to the glory of God. Stop by our website and then come see us in person.
Kathy Reasoner
Kathy was born in a small town of Emmett, Idaho- a bedroom community for Boise. She was born in the same hospital her mother was. Her parents are Ben and Judy Longest. She has an older sister and younger brother.
When Kathy was two years old, a Baptist preacher knocked on their door. He was selling Family Bibles. Judy invited him in to show her the features of this large, beautiful Bible. When Pastor Lester Hall came upon the ‘Roman’s Road to Salvation’ in the Bible, he was able to lead Kathy’s mother to the Lord. Her father was already a Christian, so they began attending State St. Baptist Church in Boise, Idaho. Kathy received Christ as her Savior at six years old.
As a senior in high school, Kathy surrendered her life to full-time service and attended Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College where we met. We got married the summer of our third year and will soon celebrate 40 years of marriage. Together we raised five children and now have eight grandchildren. We have absolutely no regrets that we chose to serve the Lord with our lives.
